Public Speaking Tip – Charity begins at Home

Public Speaking Tip – Charity begins at Home

During these Holiday times we are thinking charitably.  What should I get Uncle Vincent? How much should I tip the newspaper boy?  What is the dollar amount for this year’s holiday donation?

Yes, we should be taking care of this.  AND, we should be taking care of ourselves. My father told me “Charity begins at Home.  Take care of yourself and your family and then move out from there.”

Are we doing that when we give our presentations?  When I am coaching my clients, I notice when they move into the Bookstore (the selling section of the presentation) they freeze up, their voice changes, or they speed up.

I coined the phrase “Transactional Presentation” – when we give a presentation/speech there is a transaction at the end of it…they buy your product, they sign up for your service or they volunteer/donate to your charity.

Are you crafting a Transactional Presentation?

Are you clearly asking for the sale during the Bookstore?  Make sure you craft and script out your call to action.  Be clear, concise and direct.  Make it simple for the participants to know exactly what they have to do to get your product, service or be involved with your charity.

Know this: By increasing your income – you increase your ability to give to others.  It is a beautiful circle.

So this Holiday season, as you are giving to others remember to give to yourself.

Have a Happy and Safe Holiday with your family and friends.

Buono Natale,

Maurice
