Public Speaking Tips

Many people sweat a lot when they are asked to talk to a group of people. In fact, the fear of public speaking is so widespread that I decided to share a few simple tips with you so that you can overcome this phobia and deliver a good speech that’s bang on target.

The first step to become a good public speaker is to have a clear target set before yourself. Ask what message you want to deliver, who your target audience is and how you are going to do the presentation.  Research for content that relates to your speech, search for personal stories or incidents that the audience can relate to, as all these will help you to deliver the message effectively.

Next, picture the entire scenario in your mind, starting from how you will enter the stage, your movements during the presentation till the moment when you will wrap up the session. The more you play this imaginary scenario in your mind, the more your brain will believe in the positive image that you are feeding it. So, when the D-day arrives finally, you will not have any butterflies in your stomach, and will be able to handle it all pretty confidently. Remember- the fear is all in your mind. So, you need to blow up those demons to overcome your public speaking anxiety.

Getting your audience engaged is one of the key skills for public speaking. So, thank them at the beginning for their valuable time that they are putting in your session. Try to ask small questions or use activities that need their response, which in turn will make your audience enjoy the session. What’s more, you can even have more than a few cheerleaders from the audience who will see you through tough times, if any, which crop up during your public speaking presentations.

At the beginning of your speech, make it clear how the audience is going to benefit from the session. Making them believe that they are going to gain something of importance from the session will make them wait eagerly as to what’s on offer next. Mix some humor and surprise to make it all the more fun and you will soon have a spellbound audience – all ears to what you have to say!

So, go out there and wow your audience with a confident speech.
